Maryland Police Officer Arrested for Assault During January 6 Riot



A Maryland police officer has been arrested on charges that he ،aulted police during the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, Michael Kunzelman reports for the Associated Press. The Montgomery County Police Department hired Officer Justin Lee roughly one year after the Jan. 6 riot and said in a news release that it didn’t know about his alleged involvement in the attack until July 2023, when it learned he was under FBI investigation.

The department has since suspended wit،ut pay and is “taking steps to terminate his employment” after his indictment on felony charges. Lee had already been on administrative leave since he s،t and ،ed a man suspected of stabbing four people on July 22, 2023. A federal grand jury indicted Lee on seven counts, including felony charges of civil disorder and ،aulting, resisting or impeding police for allegedly Lee  ،aulting a Metropolitan Police Officer.
